I’m not sure why or how I haven’t heard of this pretty lady of Baltimore till today. If someone tried to tell me about her I’m sorry I didn’t listen.
Her lastest album Bottle Tree CD uses instruments such as sound recordings of herself getting an MRI, a vibrator, a childrens’ spring microphone, a Lion King audio storybook, a baby’s white noise machine, flower vases, rainsticks, wine glasses, beer bottles and etc.
If you can record your brain getting scanned and then incorporate it into your album, that is an A+ winner in my book.
Caleb just sent me a sweet new track from his upcoming full length recorded at Beat Babies with Chris and Mickey Freeland. Really diggin’ where he’s going with this, a dreamier, more orchestrated pop sound. Look forward to the record!
Let’s start this off with some good ol’ Canadian music. No Kids are probably my favourite underrated band in Canada. Their songs are catchy, melodic and surprisingly somewhat soulful. You should give them a listen and if you want more from them, they’ll be releasing their Judy at The Grove EP on May 25th on http://tomlab.de.
Tender Forever has the elements of how an indie-electro pop band should sound, but don’t write them off as just another pop band. Their new album “No Snare” is full of catchy tunes that’ll get your toes tappin’. Their beats are innovative and their songs are pretty quotable. Anyways, I think 2010 is gonna be a big(ish) year for them.
I don’t know if you’ve heard of memoryhouse, but they’ve been on almost every music blog in the past few months. Is namedropping allowed in music blog posts? When I first heard memoryhouse, I didn’t even realize that it was Denise singing on the track. Let me explain…One of my good friends, Kristen, is super close to Denise who is actually the voice of memoryhouse. I JUST WANTED TO GET THAT OUT THERE. Haha.
Anyways, listen to this track because it will definitely blow your mind.
Fresh from rocking SXSW, Fenech-Soler is a band on the rise. This UK-based band showed up on the radar in the dying months of ‘09 and are poised to have a breakout year in 2010. Their new single “Stop and Stare” was recently recognized as “Record of the Week” and “Weekend Anthem” by BBC Radio 1.
With that lengthy intro, “Lies” is an infectious synth-pop anthem that’s familiar enough to sound derivative, but catchy enough that you won’t give a fuck. Give it a listen.
Hey y’all. It’s Saturday evening, so here’s a party song for you guys. I know this song is old, but I always keep coming back to it whenever I need a hype-up. Personally, I thought the original version of this song was alright. I didn’t love it, but I didn’t hate it. And that’s how I feel about The Virgins. I haven’t really loved any of their songs, but I don’t hate them. It’s this remix that pulls me in. Sky Ferreira’s voice on this remix is amazing. So enjoy your Saturday and hope you take this song with you!
